Local Attractions
We can’t tell you how much we appreciate all of you making the trip to see us get married. Once you’re in town, you’ll find there’s a whole lot more to do and see than you could ever imagine.
If it’s history that floats your boat (pun intended), check out a number of the authentic lighthouses that pepper the Newport coast. The Castle Hill Light is a stone’s throw from where our reception will be. There are also a number of museums on land, highlighting Newport’s storied past.
Other cultural attractions in the area include the National Tennis Hall of Fame, Fort Adams State Park, and the famous Newport mansions, such as the world famous Breakers, where the Vanderbilt family spent their summers. If you’re in need of some fresh air and a pleasant stroll, we highly recommend the Cliff Walk, which winds its way along the sea and provides a great view of the mansions.
In the center of historic Newport is Thames Street. Here on this cobblestone thoroughfare, you’ll find all kinds of boutiques, bistros, and bars. You can spend an entire afternoon, wandering up and down this quaint street.
If you’re up for more of an adventure, there are a number of golf courses and tennis courts minutes from downtown Newport in Jamestown or Middleton. There are also plenty of sailing opportunities as well—after all Newport is right on the water. You can even go on a seal safari.
